Blood Cancers

• Leukaemia: Cancer of white blood cells in the bone marrow. Acute leukaemia (ALL and AML) requires urgent treatment. Chronic leukaemia (CLL and CML) is managed with targeted medicines and monitoring.
• Lymphoma: Cancer of the lymphatic system. Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma are staged and treated with chemotherapy, immunotherapy or a combination depending on type and stage.
• Multiple Myeloma: Cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow causing bone pain, anaemia and kidney involvement. Managed with medicines and autologous stem cell transplant in selected cases.

Bone Marrow Failure

• Aplastic Anaemia: Failure of the bone marrow to produce enough blood cells, treated with immunosuppression or bone marrow transplant depending on severity and donor availability.
• Pure Red Cell Aplasia: Selective failure of red cell production managed medically or with transplant in refractory cases.

Inherited Blood Disorders

• Thalassaemia: Inherited haemoglobin disorder causing chronic anaemia. Major thalassaemia requires regular transfusions and iron chelation, and may be considered for bone marrow transplant.
• Sickle Cell Disease: Inherited haemoglobin abnormality causing painful crises, anaemia and organ complications, managed with specialist haematology care.
• Haemophilia: Clotting factor deficiency causing prolonged and spontaneous bleeding, managed with factor replacement and specialist follow-up.

Platelet and Clotting Disorders

• ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura): Immune-mediated destruction of platelets causing bruising and bleeding, managed with medicines or specialist procedures.
• DVT and Pulmonary Embolism: Blood clots in leg veins or lungs managed with anticoagulation and evaluation for underlying clotting disorder.
• Thrombophilia: Inherited or acquired clotting tendency investigated in patients with recurrent clots or unexplained pregnancy loss.
• Von Willebrand Disease: Most common inherited bleeding disorder causing bruising and heavy periods, diagnosed and managed by the haematology team.

Anaemia

• Iron Deficiency Anaemia: Low iron causing low haemoglobin, evaluated for cause and treated with iron supplementation or IV iron.
• Vitamin B12 and Folate Deficiency Anaemia: Deficiency-related red cell abnormality causing fatigue and neurological symptoms.
• Haemolytic Anaemia: Abnormal destruction of red blood cells from immune, inherited or other causes requiring haematology evaluation.
