Rare Heart Condition Successfully Treated at Kamineni Hospitals

Kamineni Hospitals has achieved a remarkable medical feat by treating a hereditary heart condition, Marfan Syndrome, in a family spanning three generations. Affecting only 0.19 people per 100,000, Marfan Syndrome caused both the mother and her son to suffer from aortic aneurysms, which were successfully treated with advanced surgical techniques.

Dr. Vishal V. Khante, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Kamineni Hospitals, detailed the case: The mother, exhibiting signs of Marfan Syndrome and a ruptured aorta, underwent emergency surgery to replace her aorta with an artificial one. Her son, also displaying symptoms of the syndrome, underwent the Bentall procedure, a complex surgery with a 50% success rate, and recovered successfully.

The family, notable for their height and associated genetic issues, underscores the importance of early detection and intervention. Tests revealed the younger son also has the condition, highlighting the need for ongoing monitoring.

Dr. Gayatri Kamineni, COO of Kamineni Hospitals, praised the dedicated team, including Dr. Khante, Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, Dr. Suresh Kumar Esampalli, and Dr. Ravali Sade, for their crucial roles in the successful treatment.
