Kamineni Doctors Save Woman After Betel Nut Blocks Airway

A 31-year-old Hyderabad man recently underwent a life-saving surgery at our hospital at LB Nagar, after being diagnosed with a rare combination of heart problems. His condition was critical as his heart valves were leaking, the aorta had doubled in size and a congenital hole in the heart (VSD) made things even more dangerous. He was struggling with swelling, breathlessness and fatigue when doctors decided to act quickly.

The cardiac team, led by Dr Rishith Bathini, performed a Bentall’s procedure which is a complex surgery that required stopping the patient’s heart for nearly one and a half hours while a machine kept his body functioning. During this time, the dilated aorta was replaced with an artificial valve, blood vessels were reimplanted and the VSD was corrected.

Despite the high risk of rupture and complications, the surgery was completed successfully without a single blood transfusion. The patient’s heart function improved dramatically from 20–30% before surgery to 90% after. He was discharged within five days, marking an incredible recovery.

On World Heart Day, we have announced a special Heart Check-up Camp from September 29 to October 11, offering discounts on consultations and investigations.
