Hyderabad, May 21, 2025: If either parent is a carrier of Thalassemia Minor, there is a high chance that their children may inherit Thalassemia Major. This is a serious condition that can become life threatening if neglected. However, if diagnosed in time, children can be managed effectively through regular blood transfusions and medications.
To raise awareness among parents and conduct Thalassemia-related tests for children, Kamineni Hospitals, Hyderabad, is organizing a free hematology camp. The camp will be held daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, where pediatricians, hematologists, and genetic specialists will conduct various diagnostic tests for children. Those interested in availing the free tests can contact 8985450534 for more details and registration.
On this occasion, Dr. S. Narasimha Rao, Head of Pediatrics and Senior Consultant Pediatrician, stated as “If children often appear tired or weak, have pale or yellowish skin, show delayed growth, an unusually large abdomen, abnormal facial bone structure, frequent fevers or infections, or dark-colored urine — these could be signs of Thalassemia. Parents should immediately seek medical advice and get their children tested. Early detection and timely treatment can help save lives.”
Also present at the event were Consultant Pediatrician Dr. Kanchan S. Channawar, Consultant Medical Oncologist Dr. S. Jayanti, Consultant Medical Oncologist and Hematologist Dr. M. Srinivas, Head of Genetics and Molecular Medicine and Senior Consultant Dr. Annie Q. Hasan, Genetics Counsellor Dr. Sreelatha Komandur, Head of Immunohematology and Transfusion Medicine and Senior Consultant Dr. N.
