A cultural performance took an unexpected turn when a 26-year-old karate instructor sustained a deep cut to his right palm while attempting a symbolic blood tilak during an emotional rendition of the “Shoorveer” song. The injury was severe, damaging digital nerves, tendons and blood vessels supplying the little and ring fingers, leaving two fingers immobile with heavy bleeding and loss of sensation.

On arrival, the emergency team acted without delay. Led by Dr. B. Krishna Chaitanya, Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, the patient was taken for emergency super microsurgery. Using an operating microscope and ultra-fine sutures, the surgical team carefully repaired the severed arteries, tendons and sensory nerves, restoring blood circulation and preserving finger function.

In a thoughtful gesture to ease the patient’s anxiety, the same “Shoorveer” song was played in the operating theatre, helping him feel calm during treatment.
