Labor & Delivery Services

Kamineni’s Labor & Delivery unit is well-equipped and staffed to deliver highest quality of care, making sure that any specific needs and concerns of the patient are met at every step of the way. We encourage a vaginal delivery and recommend C-section only in case of any risk for the mother or child. We also assist patients who plan to have a vaginal delivery after Caesarean delivery, with their health and safety as our first priority.

Once we have a patient in active labor, she is immediately shifted to the delivery room. Fetal monitoring is conducted periodically or continually throughout the labour, with access to a dedicated anesthesia team, high-risk pregnancy team and neonatologists. After childbirth, for the first few hours of recovery, the mother is shifted to the recovery room and later to the obstetric ward. Quick assessment of the child’s health is done immediately after delivery, and our experts ensure that newborns requiring extra care are shifted to NICU.

Thermal Balloon Endometrial Ablation Therapy

Abnormal uterine bleeding affects large number of women in the reproductive and perimenopausal age group. Conservative management of AUB includes endometrial ablation. Endometrial ablation is a day care procedure performed to remove a thin layer of tissue lining the uterus.
During thermal balloon endometrial ablation therapy, the doctor passes an instrument with balloon attached through vagina into the uterus and inflates with heated fluid which in turn destroys the lining of the uterus.


Hysteroscopy is a day care procedure used to examine the inside of uterus through an instrument called hysteroscope. Hysteroscope is a thin optical device inserted into the vagina to diagnose and treat specific conditions of the uterine cavity. Hysteroscopy can be either diagnostic or operative. Hysteroscopy helps in diagnosing and treating abnormal uterine bleeding, removal of fibroids, treatment of uterine abnormalities, investigation of infertility.

  • Diagnostic Hysteroscopy is used to diagnose the problems of the uterus.
  • Operative Hysteroscopy is intended to correct the problems identified by inserting the instruments through hysteroscope

Hysterectomy is a surgical procedure whereby a woman’s uterus is removed. A woman may need hysterectomy for many reasons like fibroids, abnormal vaginal bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, uterine prolapse, cancer etc. Depending on the reason for surgery, doctor may choose to remove total or part of the uterus. Hysterectomy for non-cancerous reasons would be considered only when other treatment options are not available or have been unsuccessful.
Hysterectomy is performed under general or regional anesthesia. Surgery can be performed in several ways:

Abdominal Hysterectomy:
In abdominal hysterectomy, surgeon makes a vertical or horizontal incision across the abdomen through which the uterus is removed.
Vaginal Hysterectomy
In this type of surgery, uterus is removed through a small incision made inside the vagina.
Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgery done using a laparoscope which is a long and thin tube with a light source & a tiny camera that allows the surgeon to see the internal organs. Laparoscopic surgery is associated with less pain, has low risk of infection and recovery is fast.
Laparoscopic Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy (LAVH)
LAVH is a surgical procedure performed using a laparoscope to guide the removal of uterus through the vagina.
Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy is an advanced laparoscopic procedure also known as key-hole surgery. It is done using small incisions in your abdomen through which a laparoscope is inserted and other instruments through which, the surgeon cuts the uterus into small pieces to remove it.

After Surgery, the patient will remain in the recovery room for few hours. Once the patient is stable, she will be shifted to the ward and may generally require hospital stay of 3 to 5 days. Patient is advised rest for about six weeks after the surgery.


Colposcopy is a simple procedure where a magnifying device named colposcope is used to examine cervix, vagina and vulva. This procedure is recommended when a pap smear test has shown abnormal results. It is an outpatient procedure and takes around 15 to 20 mins.
An instrument named speculum is placed in the vagina and a colposcope is moved near to vagina in order to examine the cervix. The doctor may apply acetic acid with cotton swab to highlight any abnormal areas. If any abnormal areas are found, a small sample of tissue (biopsy) is removed for closer examination in the laboratory. After the procedure, the patient may have spotting or dark vaginal discharge for one or two days. The results would help determine if one requires treatment or any additional tests.

Intrauterine Insemination

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a procedure for treating infertility which involves placing a sperm inside a woman’s uterus to facilitate fertilization. It is the first step in fertility treatment and is less invasive & cost effective method. IUI may be done in couples who have unexplained infertility, cervical mucus abnormalities, ejaculation dysfunction, decreased sperm count & mobility.
IUI can be coordinated with women’s natural cycle or with fertility medications. Semen sample provided at the clinic will be washed and concentrated so that highly active, healthy sperms which are capable of fertilizing an egg are separated. Close monitoring with ultrasound or blood test helps doctor to determine the best time for the procedure to be carried out. IUI is done a day or two after detecting the ovulation.

During the procedure, a speculum is inserted into the vagina, a long, thin, flexible tube (catheter) with a vial containing sample of healthy sperm attached at the end is inserted through the cervical opening into the uterus. The sample is injected into the uterus. The procedure takes just a few minutes.
After insemination, the doctor may advise you to return after two weeks to take a test for pregnancy.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

In vitro fertilization is an assisted reproductive technology used for infertility treatment. IVF is a procedure where the egg is fertilized with sperm in lab and then is implanted into the women’s uterus. This procedure can be done using a woman’s own eggs and her partner’s sperm. Or IVF may involve eggs, sperm or embryos from known or anonymous donor. IVF is used to treat infertility in case of blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, women with ovulation disorders, uterine fibroids, male factor infertility, unexplained infertility.

Fertility medications are advised to stimulate multiple egg production. To determine when the eggs are ready for collection, the doctor will perform ultrasound and blood tests. Eggs are retrieved through transvaginal ultrasound aspiration that uses ultrasound imaging to guide a thin needle through vagina and into the follicles to retrieve the eggs. Semen sample is also collected at the clinic. Eggs are mixed with healthy sperms and incubated in the process of insemination. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is used in case of lower chances of fertilization where healthy sperm is injected directly into each mature egg to achieve fertilization. The fertilized eggs i.e. embryos are transferred into the women’s uterus 3 to 5 days after fertilization under mild sedation through a long, flexible tube. After the procedure, patient can resume their normal activities.
